Prayers Answered...WellSpring Worship Leader Is Here!
God has moved steadily and quickly regarding our prayer for a worship leader after God's own heart! Doing only what He could do, He has sent us Matt Turner, who has blessed us with guesting for four weeks this winter. Matt has previously led worship at Whitfield UMC in Montgomery, but he and Tiffany most recently have been using their God-given gifts to bless Frazer Memorial UMC. They bring with them a vast capacity for heart-touching ministry including drama, set construction, and Celebrate Recovery!Mike and I are in awe that God moved so rapidly; in the five weeks between our previous worship leader's departure and Matt's first visit, He covered the bases amply with willing hands and hearts, and He doubled the opportunity for music servants at WellSpring. God set in place a foundation strong enough to withstand staff changes, which, though unexpected at times, invite a watching, prayerful fellowship of believers to see what God is up to! We did not advertise for a worship leader as we had done previously; we just posted the vacancy on our website and committed to prayer. In this way, we substituted what God could do for what man scrambles to do. As only God can do, there are several connection points that amaze us. We discovered that Matt and Mike both went on the Walk to Emmaus (CAEC #21) in May 1997...but did not remember each other! Tiffany is the first cousin of a dear college friend who served at our wedding, Auburn Wesley Foundation compadres! We met briefly during our St. Luke years in the late 90's, but we never dreamed our paths would cross again. Yet, God sure did!
We rejoice to welcome Matt, Tiffany, Garrett, MacKenzie, Aaron, and Avery to help us continue to join God where He is at work at WellSpring. We have all been blessed by Matt's administrative AND relational leadership even as he has guested, and the joyful demeanors each of the Turner family embodies is definitely of a kindred-spirit kind! Praise God for answering this prayer in a way that only He can!
A Bit About Matt and Tiffany:
Birthplace?
Birthplace?
Both: Montgomery, Alabama
Stomping grounds?
Matt: Well, I don’t know that I ever intentionally stomped. I tried line dancing, once. I grew up in South Montgomery just outside of the city limits. My granddad bought 100 acres out there and some of my family still lives there.
Tiffany: I grew up in Montgomery ’s magnet schools, graduated from Auburn Architecture, and came back to Montgomery to have my own design business. So church, work, and kids take all my time. I do mission work when I can and am planning to help Common Ground ministry start a community garden in the spring.
Favorite quote?
Matt- Wow, only one? I’m a big Humphrey Bogart, Star Trek and Big Bang Theory fan so it’s hard to pick. Probably, “It seemed like a good idea at the time.”
Tiffany – “That’s about as likely as the Hubble Telescope finding that at the center of every black hole there’s a little tiny man with a flashlight trying to find the breaker switch.” -Sheldon Cooper on "Big Bang Theory", and “Live simply so others may simply live.” – Mother Theresa
Favorite music?
Matt: Contemporary Christian music, and my favorite band is Third Day.
Tiffany: The same.
Favorite movies?
Matt: Any by Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia, who put together "Fireproof", "Facing the Giants" and "Flywheel".
Tiffany: "Princess Bride", "Ever After", "Amistad", "What Dreams May Come"
Favorite food?
Matt: Everything my wife cooks!
Tiffany: Anything I don’t have to cook. And hot spinach & artichoke dip.
Favorite things to do?
Matt: Right now, relax on the couch holding my kids or napping. When I’m not exhausted, I play a lot of Island Paradise on Facebook.
Tiffany: Hiking, biking, camping, kayaking, painting, drawing. Several of those are somewhat on hold while the kids are little, but they’re learning fast!
Favorite hangout?
Matt: My house, I am a real homebody.
Tiffany: Chick-Fil-A. They have an attitude every Christian & congregation should exude: “It’s my pleasure to serve you.” I can take the kids to play while I do my Bible Study homework, someone refills my drink, and enjoy the fresh flowers on the table. Everyone’s happy to help you. Second Favorite: Looney’s Super Skate. This business is run by a very godly family who give the kids a great safe place to play and the moms a chance to sit and talk.
Life Verse?
Matt: Currently: "Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus." [1 Thessalonians 5:16-18] I also like "So do not fear for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." [Isaiah 41:10]
Tiffany: “For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD; "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” [Jeremiah 29:11]
